Most Effective and Safe Ways to Detox

The term 'detox' has become increasingly popular over the last few years, but the 'how' remains unclear as many people approach detoxing in an unhealthy way. Detoxing is a term used when trying to rid the body of contaminants or toxins, which include pollutants, preservatives, heavy metals, processed food, and other harmful chemicals. However, the general population is going about detoxing in all the wrong ways by using diuretics, laxatives, and teas. Usually, this does nothing to target the underlying issue and instead leaves the person dehydrated and in worse shape than they were before.

So, the questions remain of how do you detox safely, and what are effective methods? The safest and most powerful detox method is letting your body do the work. The body is a natural detoxification system that can remove many of the toxins organically. For the body to operate in this manner, it is imperative to treat your body the way it deserves.  The body merits proper nutrition, exercise, and some other methods that have been established since ancient days.

Let's begin with the topic of nutrition. Many of the toxins that can be found in our system are from our food. That being said, bisphenol-A (BPA), mercury, and a slew of pesticides can be found on many of our food items. These toxins are especially prevalent in foods that are processed and man-made. Organic, natural products should be utilized as much as possible, and aim to consume 9-13 servings of fruits and vegetables daily. However, it is essential to be aware that even fruits and vegetables can have chemicals on them. It is best to buy organic, when possible, and always wash fruits and vegetables before eating.

Hydration is another crucial modification that should be applied to everyday life. Many of us go the majority of the day without drinking water but instead drink coffee, tea, and soft drinks. While a special drink every once in a while is acceptable, it should not be an everyday occurrence.  When detoxing, alcohol, in addition to the other mentioned drinks, should not be consumed.  Try to flood your body with water and watch your energy increase, your skin look healthier, and your brain process quicker.

Sweating is crucial to rid the body of toxins, whether through exercise or saunas. The body does not only sweat out toxins from food but also toxins from the environmental.  The scientific community is not in agreement that sweating can aid the detox process, but detoxing through sweating has been utilized since the beginning of time.  The Romans, Russians, and Finnish have been using saunas to detox for thousands of years.

While some holistic doctors can accurately guide a successful detox, many of the over-the-counter options in regards to detox purposes are not recommended.  Eating healthy, exercising, and sweating are all simple ways to allow your body to do what it does best: detoxify.
